Friday Newsletter for 10/20/17

DMS PTO Newsletter for 10/20/17
Box Tops Fall Collection Ends Friday
The Box Tops collection continues for only one more week until Friday, October 27th. Vie for a team prize and earn money for our school just by turning in some otherwise worthless cardboard rectangles!

Please send in your non-expired Box Tops with your student and they can put them in the Box Tops collection box in the main entryway, pictured below.

If your child did not receive (or bring home) a baggie with a label,  just label one with the grade and team of your student because this year there is a contest between the teams in each grade.  The team that brings in the most Box Tops in 6th, 7th and 8th grade (for the year) will win a prize.
Fall Student Social Coming Up!
The fall student social is coming up soon! Tickets will be on sale at the school store (Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch) for $5. Additionally, tickets will be sold 10/27, 10/30, 11/1, and 11/2 during lunch. All tickets must be purchased in advance. You can volunteer to help sell tickets with the sign up below.

Sign up here to volunteer to sell tickets, set up, clean up, or chaperone during the party. So far we have had a great response from teacher volunteers but only seven parent volunteers signed up. We need a lot more! Please sign up. Any adults who come to chaperone may dress up in costume if they want.

Activities planned are the following:
1. DJ and dancing
2. Photo Booth with props
3. Costume contest to be judged by the teachers with gift cards to the winners
4. Games including ping pong, apple-bobbing, giant Jenga, a large inflatable football-toss game, "chair basketball," and corn hole
5. Crafts including flower pens and origami
6. Food – 2 pieces of pizza, drinks (Turner Dairy lemonade or iced tea), and a Blue Bunny frozen dessert
Does anyone have a cornhole set we could use for the students social? If so, please respond to this newsletter and let us know. Thank you!

Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot is a chance for DMS students to donate money that will be used to purchase Thanksgiving meals for local families (who have students in the school district) who need the assistance. If students forgot to bring in their donation, they might be able to turn it in next week on Monday, October 23.

On Friday, October 27, students go outside during last period (starting at 2:20 PM) to walk on the track with their classmates and friends. Towards the end of the day, students come inside to enjoy a delicious cookie (donated by the PTO) made by the students at Beattie Technical School.

We need a few volunteers (with clearances) to help pass out cookies. Sign up here.
Teacher Luncheon
On November 7, parent-teacher conference day, the PTO will provide a catered lunch for the teachers. We need volunteers to help decorate, serve lunch, and clean up afterwards. The need is for 11/7 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please sign up here if you can help. You don't need clearances for this one!
Sign Up to Staff the School Store
We continue to need volunteers (with clearances) to sign up for a Tuesday or Thursday lunch-time session in the coming weeks and months to run the school store. Currently we need someone (or two) for 11/14, 11/21, and 11/30. In addition to selling tickets for the fall student social, the school store carries many student essentials including locks, pencils, notebooks, gym shirts, and more.
